Stop having children by men who are lazy & inactive. That’s where this should start. I can understand the first child not knowing but to continually have more after he’s not helped with the first is insane. You deserve to bathe in peace. You deserve to have a meal in peace. You deserve time alone to yourself. If you don’t get this with baby number one, do NOT have more children. You’re already going to be burned out. It’s 2024 and realistically, the “village” doesn’t exist because we’re all tired. Please consider this before having children. Your family & friends might be too tired to help. This is why I have zero children right now. I know I wouldn’t get help from my family. Please please ladies think about this before you have another one. You’ve got to put your well being first & be honest about who your partner is. Some of y’all know that man is essentially like an overgrown child. That’s not someone to have a baby with ✨

Excuse me! Speak for yourself hun. There is nothing quite like an indulgent lobster hot bath with a delectable bath bomb, my favorite show on a laptop, and a cup of tea. Likewise there is nothing quite like an extra hot shower where I scrub down from the very top of my head to the tip of my pinky toe.

When my friend had a screaming baby that wouldn't settle, all my friend wanted was a shower (and couldn't). I held that baby and took care and told my friend to luxuriate for as long as she liked. The magic of a feel good shower!

After having my babies the minute a friend dropped by all I wanted was a shower not the 2 min rush between feedings it may be a basic need but for me it was like a day at the spa to relax knowing baby was safe

I feel like this is willfully misunderstanding the message that is usually communicated with "have a nice shower" and the clear as day evidence for that is the "nice". The notion is "take a nice long time in the shower* and e.g. give yourself a face mask and listen to music. Find some inner peace. And when you are back from the little escape of reality, let's regroup and see how we better distribute the remaining tasks, so you aren't immediately back in the struggle again." But i guess you are right and when i play with my sister's children while she stands there in the mess that causes the stress, she relaxes way better than when i play with the children and feed them, maybe putting away the toy with the children while she can listen to music in a bathtube. I am sure....

I imagine if a mom, grandma, aunt, or more seasoned mom is suggesting you go take a shower it’s probably because they understand and remember those early stages of motherhood and how nice a hot shower was and the joy of feeling refreshed and clean after. I remember feeling overwhelmed as a new mom and how taking a simple shower recharged me, seemed to clear my foggy brain, and made me feel ready to tackle some chores and my new mom duties. It is nice when someone comes and washes your dishes, folds your laundry, or brings you dinner but everyone has their own life and most days it’s just going to be you and the kids so knowing how you can set yourself up to have a good or better day is important, so don’t take that “Go take shower” advice for granted, it’s actually incredibly valuable when you’re alone and stressed and there’s no one around to help you, taking a shower to could be a good way to step away from the chaos and return to it with a different perspective and better mentality. ❤

You are all so easily distracted. The point is that her hubby needs to back her up and give her a break. She needs to take it.

A mother can get a shower if she has a normal healthy baby! The baby can cry some when they are small and it is healthy for their lungs to do so! Mothers quiet often feel guilty when their child cries and believe a good mother constantly holds her child and therefore the child never clear s to self soothe! I held my babies constantly and it is not why they survived or thrived . It is why I was constantly exhausted! Take a shower. Fix your makeup and clean up the house. Cook ! Just don’t do all of this allowing your baby to cry. Just in short 20 minute spurts. They learn to self soothe this way which leads to sleeping better etc.

It sure is self care !!! Yes it is a necessity to care of yourself, it's both!! While the mama I'd relaxing I would fo dishes and clean up and make it a game with the kids.

Disagree totally. I can take a self care shower any time. I want a NICE shower. You can hold the baby while I go do that.

Showers are good way to relax and the warm water is relaxing. Baths are nice too. Stop speaking for everyonen just because YOU dont like something.

Sounds like you are a little emotionally unstable. Maybe instead posting garbage you should think about how terrible you are to others around you and make a change for the better.

I just had a baby 6 days ago. Showers are most definitely self care. Sleep, food, and water are basic human needs. I can go a few days without a shower. I can't go a few days without sleep, food, and water.

I disagree, if it was just a basic need, I could just wash with a single bar of unscented soap or whatever else that will get the job done, lather it on my body and leave it at that. What makes it self care for me(and others that i'm sure would agree) is getting the scents I love, maybe a bunch of body scrubs for that smooth feeling, or simply just letting the nice warm water hit my skin while I meditate. It is definitely a stress reliever. Honestly, it can be both self-care and a basic human need; I don't see the reason for it to be one or the other. Self-care is a basic human need :)

Seems you’ve met my MIL. Except she also came over one month after the baby was born, with an uncooked feast and asked us to BBQ it for them (her and my stepdad-in-law) so I could “take some time off while they held the baby.” Because cooking a BBQ feast for them 1 month postpartum is my time off. 🤦🏻‍♀️

What we really need to stop doing is assuming everyone is the same. We are not carbon copies of each other. If you want to help, then offer the help they need not necessarily what you think you would need in a similar situation.
